In my last post I talked about the importance of reviewing 2016 before striking out and making plans for 2017. To help you with your goal setting I also ran a free webinar on creating your marketing strategy for the year ahead and if you missed that you can watch the recording at this link.
Today I want to emphasize two key aspects which are vital if you want to really take your marketing to another level in 2017.
This might not be what you expected to hear but for many of us marketing our businesses doesn’t always come easily.
Let’s be honest, there is a considerable amount to learn if we want to get things right. How do we start a blog, set up a mailing list or get the most out of social media? How do we optimise our website to get the most search traffic arriving at our doorsteps? How do we remain positive when we get negative feedback or feel overwhelmed?
It’s not possible to learn all of this overnight, but it is possible to learn it. I know because I have done it.
You can learn it too, but it’s important to be open to seeking out the information. There is plenty of free information out there – I add a lot of free content to this site in the form of blog posts and downloadable pdfs and there is going to be much more of that type of content in the year ahead. I also share the content of experts in particular areas, such as SEO and graphics, in my free Facebook group so it might be worth heading over there to get access to that.
You can also join online courses and training – but the key factor here is ensuring you work through the material and then implement it. Implementation can sometimes be the missing factor when we learn something new (I’m just the same) but it can make all the difference when it comes to a positive impact on our business.
In all this learning though remember not to get overwhelmed. It’s often helpful to think ‘I don’t have to do everything at once’ and instead focus on what do I need right now, particularly if you are very new to an online business.
As an example, if you are setting up a blog, focus in on that for a short period while you get it together and then move on to learning more about social media later. That way you won’t feel like you are drowning in information. Alternatively it can help to join a program where information is delivered in bite-size chunks.
The second part is perhaps my all time favourite word when it comes to marketing and that is C O N S I S T E N C Y – thought I would make it as dramatic as possible ☺
Taking action on spreading the word about your business every day in 2017 will have a hugely positive impact on how successful you are.
New Year resolutions can often be about the big picture, what we want to achieve as a whole in the year ahead, but it will be those small steps we take every day that will have the most effect. Those daily social media updates we put out, those weekly blog posts we write, and those monthly newsletters we send will be what tell people about what we have to offer and what will build trust in our audience that we are there for the long haul.
So as you create your goals and as you write down your resolutions add this one line and see what a big impact it can have on your business in 2017.
“I am open to learning and I am committed to consistency.”
I’m off to write it in my journal right now. Happy New Year everyone.
