If you are an Amazon affiliate you want to be able to add a wide range of products to your site quickly and easily to make the most of the program.
Over the years I have used many different options for doing this – from adding products manually through to different WordPress plugins. However, I have now settled on what I see as the best Amazon Affiliate plugin for WordPress and therefore I thought I would share it with you, as it may reduce your research time.
The plugin is the Amazon Associates Link Builder. It’s free to use and is in fact the official WordPress plugin of Amazon, thereby ensuring that you are compliant with their terms of service.
When you install it, it will walk you through connecting it to your Amazon Associates account. You only need to do this once and then you can add products to any page or post. The great thing is that the products you add will update in real-time so there is always the correct pricing and latest offers appearing and it’s a completely hands-off process for you. This is really the only way to do it as it’s actually against the terms of service of Amazon to add any pricing yourself manually to products, meaning it always has to be served automatically. This is really because pricing on Amazon is subject to so many changes across the course of a month, let alone a year, and the platform always wants to give their potential customers access to the best deals.
Once you have the Amazon Associates Link Builder installed you can add simple text links, create product showcases or even add specially designed widgets which are included in the plugin.
You can also search for products from within your WordPress dashboard, so there’s no need to switch between your site and Amazon. You just type the query into the search box which appears above your WordPress editor, as you can see in the image below.
So for example, say you were reviewing a certain book, just type in the book’s title and then from the results add the affiliate link as a product image, as part of a widget or just as a simple clickable text link. In the image below you can see that dropdown of your choices on the left. In the middle box is your affiliate ID, I have covered mine for privacy purposes, and then on the right you can choose which marketplace you want e.g. UK, USA, Canada etc.
That’s basically it. Your affiliate links will be embedded and you won’t have to do any further work unless you want to add new products or change them up going forward.
The image below shows you a product grid I have coming up at the bottom of one of my Pet Hooligans’ blog posts. As you can see it’s a great way to add highly relevant items that actually fit with the content of your post. One of the problems I had with earlier plugins is that they selected the products automatically, keying off the back of the keywords in your post. However, I never found these items to be truly relevant and there were sometimes some very strange items appearing. For me, I prefer the control of adding the products myself and from what I have seen so far in terms of increased clickthroughs and purchases I am very happy with giving my readers far more relevant content.
Of course you don’t need to choose to add products to every post – just pop them in where they seem relevant and where they are going to help your reader.
Also, you can also choose to add the products wherever you want, so at the top, middle, bottom or however you choose to add them in the post. You can also add all types of number combinations, so as few or as many products as you feel comfortable with in a post.
I hope that’s given you a good heads up on this really flexible plugin and what I see as the best Amazon affiliate plugin for WordPress, but of course if you have any questions, please just add them to the comments below.
